Ten CUHK students awarded the HSBC Greater Bay Area (Hong Kong) Scholarship

In July 2022, HSBC announced the results of students’ applications for its HSBC Greater Bay Area (Hong Kong) Scholarship 2021—22. Ten outstanding undergraduate students from CUHK have been awarded the scholarship, the highest number of awardees among local institutions. They will each be granted HK$80,000, and also be provided mentorship opportunities with HSBC executives and connected with financial leaders working in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) to help them establish their social and professional networks.

One of the awardees, Chau Kin-pok Bosco, a second-year student from the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery Programme, said, “The huge population of the GBA means there is a big demand for medical professionals. I hope to become a clinical tutor in specialist training centres in the region, to help cultivate a new batch of medical practitioners who can serve the citizens there. I am also keen on research into online healthcare. In response to the pandemic, the demand for telemedicine and online medical insurance services has greatly increased. With the increasing prevalence of 5G networks and the Internet of Things, online healthcare looks like it will become a booming business, so I would like to learn more and pursue a career in this area to benefit society.”

Chow Lok Ching Laura, a third-year student from the Integrated Bachelor of Business Administration Programme at CUHK, has always aimed to start a business in the GBA region. By leveraging and integrating with the GBA environment, she will have a better understanding of Chinese culture and Chinese medicine. The scholarship has enabled her to launch a smart customer-centric insurtech platform to provide enterprises, individual users and insurance companies with a more convenient and efficient platform which integrated both Chinese and Western medical options. She hopes that by understanding each client’s medical history and preferences, this platform will allow more people to access affordable and accessible medical care services, and achieve health equity.
