Global academic leaders to gather at CUHK

CUHK, in partnering with Times Higher Education (THE), will host the THE Asia Universities Summit from June 21 to June 23. The summit will be one of the landmark events to mark CUHK’s 60th anniversary.

With the region’s increased representation from a quarter to a third of all institutions listed in the THE World University Rankings over the past five years, the summit, themed “the Asian university in 2050”, will focus on the development and future of universities in the region. More than 350 leaders and scholars from more than 100 universities in mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, India, Pakistan, the Middle East and Oceania are expected to participate.

Featuring a different topic each day, the three-day event will kick off with “partnerships and alliances”, continues on “research strategies and emerging megatrends” on the second day, and closes with discussions on “internationalisation and the student experience”.

Among the keynote speakers, the University of Auckland’s Vice-chancellor Dawn Freshwater will offer insights about the importance of partnerships. Harvard University’s Professor of China Studies William Kirby will share his thoughts on the megatrends driving US-China relations until 2050.

CUHK Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Rocky S. Tuan will open the summit and speak at a range of sessions.

The summit will also feature the live reveal of the THE Asia University Rankings 2023 and host the THE Awards Asia 2023 ceremony. During the networking lunch break on the first two days, the participating universities will present their stories. This is an opportunity for delegates to find out about those universities and their research capabilities, as well as to have open, informal discussions about possible future collaborations and partnerships.
