CUHK members recognised in 2026 Honours List and appointed as Justices of the Peace

On 1 July, the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region announced the 2026 Honours List and Justices of the Peace appointments. Several members of CUHK were recognised for their remarkable contributions to various sectors of the community and their dedicated public service.
Among all the honourees, Professor Lawrence Lau Juen-yee (above, left), former Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK, was awarded the Grand Bauhinia Medal for his outstanding academic achievements on economics and tremendous contributions to the society. Current Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK Professor Dennis Lo Yuk-ming (above, right) was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star in recognition of his significant contributions to the advancement of medical research and global public health.
Grand Bauhinia Medal recipients include:
- Director of the Board of CUHK Medical Centre The Honourable Chan Kin-por, GBM, GBS, JP, Non-official Member of the Executive Council, honoured for his proactive participation in public service and valuable suggestions and advice to the Government with exceptional contributions
- Former CUHK Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Lawrence Lau Juen-yee, GBM, GBS, JP, honoured for his outstanding academic achievements on economics and tremendous contributions to the finance and higher education sectors of Hong Kong
Gold Bauhinia Star recipients include:
- Alumnus The Honourable Chan Hak-kan, GBS, SBS, JP, Non-official Member of the Executive Council, honoured for his exceptional leadership skills, strong commitment to safeguarding national security, and exemplary contributions and dedicated services to Hong Kong
- CUHK Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Dennis Lo Yuk-ming, GBS, SBS, JP, honoured for his remarkable contributions on medical research and public health strategies to Hong Kong
Silver Bauhinia Star recipients include:
- Council member The Honourable Chan Han-pan, SBS, BBS, JP, honoured for his strong commitment to social issues and district affairs to enhance the well-being of society
- Alumnus The Honourable Kingsley Wong Kwok, SBS, BBS, JP, honoured for his active role in advocating for labour rights
- Adjunct Associate Professor of the Department of Music Professor Yuen Siu-fai, SBS, BBS, a veteran Cantonese opera artist who has thrived in the performing arts for over 70 years
Bronze Bauhinia Star recipients include:
- Alumnus Mr Cheung Tak-keung, BBS, PMSM, honoured for his notable contributions to the Government and community over the years
- Alumnus Ir Wong Chi-pan, BBS, JP, former Head of Civil Engineering Office, honoured for his dedicated service for more than 34 years
- Alumnus Mr Yeung Tak-keung, BBS, honoured for his strong capability in organising major sporting events which promoted sports development of Hong Kong
Members of the CUHK community were also recognised across a broad spectrum of honours, including awards for Distinguished and Meritorious Service in the Disciplined Services and the ICAC, the Medal of Honour, the Chief Executive’s Commendation for Community and Chief Executive’s Commendation for Government/Public Service.
In addition, the following members of the University community were appointed as Justices of the Peace by the Chief Executive:
