CUHK athletes delivered a season for the ages, capturing both the overall women’s championship and overall men’s first runner-up titles at the University Sports Federation of Hong Kong (USFHK) Competitions 2025-26. At the annual prize presentation ceremony on 26 April, the University celebrated a historic campaign defined by breakthrough victories, unwavering team spirit and outstanding performances across multiple sports that elevated its standing in Hong Kong’s premier intercollegiate sports tournament.
CUHK’s women’s overall championship win marks a historic breakthrough: this is its first title since the 2004-05 season. The 21-year gap underscores the extraordinary dedication and talent of this year’s athletes. Their success reflects sustained excellence throughout the competitive calendar.
In a stunning display of resilience, CUHK’s men’s basketball team overcame a 12-point deficit to defeat the University of Hong Kong 74-72, clinching the championship for the first time since the 1992-93 academic year. The dramatic comeback electrified spectators as the team fought back to end the championship drought. The women’s basketball team advanced to the final for the first time in a decade and clinched the championship after a hard-fought campaign.
Several CUHK athletes earned induction into the prestigious USFHK Hall of Fame, an accolade reserved for those who have achieved the highest level of sporting excellence. The awardees represent the pinnacle of athletic achievement, distinguished by outstanding accomplishments on the international stage. Admission is granted through a rigorous selection process and is reserved for athletes who have demonstrated exceptional performance, competitiveness and enduring impact in their sport.
Dr Elean Leung Fung-lin, Director of CUHK’s Physical Education Unit, voiced her deep pride in the athletes’ accomplishments, noting that “the teams showed remarkable dedication and passion in every single competition”. She extended gratitude to the University for providing excellent facilities and resources to support the athletes, adding: “We are particularly grateful to Vice-Chancellor Professor Dennis Lo, as well as Dean of Students and Associate Vice-President Professor Ko Wing-hung, whose personal visits on the eve of the matches lifted our players and made them feel the University’s unwavering backing.” She further conveyed sincere appreciation to the CUHK Sports Medicine Team for their dedicated on-field care.
