CUHK signs diplomacy studies MoU with China Foreign Affairs University

16 April 2026

CUHK’s Faculty of Social Science signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU)’s Department of Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs Management on 27 March. This establishes a five-year partnership to advance teaching, talent cultivation and research collaboration in diplomacy and international studies, and to foster long-term, sustainable academic exchange and development.

The MoU was signed by CUHK Dean of Social Science Professor Anthony Fung Ying-him and Chairperson of CFAU’s Department of Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs Management Professor Xiong Wei. The signing was witnessed by CUHK Provost Professor Poon Wai-yin and Deputy Director of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences of the Commissioner’s Office of China’s Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR Ms Lu Ke.

Under this MoU, CUHK and CFAU will establish a cooperation mechanism that includes faculty exchange, as well as summer training and exchange opportunities for students. These initiatives will enable students to gain deeper insights into national policymaking and diplomatic practices, strengthening their understanding of the nation’s role in international affairs and enhancing their ability to participate in practical diplomatic work.

In addition, the two institutions will collaborate on CUHK’s newly launched, interdisciplinary Diplomacy and International Studies programme. Jointly offered by the Faculty of Social Science and the Faculty of Law, the programme aims to nurture talents who are proficient in Chinese and Western cultures and equipped with the skills to excel in diplomacy, international organisations and related fields.
