“Global Degree Pathways” initiative attracts outstanding engineering students to pursue postgraduate studies at CUHK
12 March 2026
CUHK’s Faculty of Engineering and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) Global College (GC) signed a memorandum of understanding recently to jointly launch the “Global Degree Pathways” (GDP) initiative. Successful applicants will receive full financial support from CUHK, providing strong backing for their research and academic development. The initiative aims to attract outstanding students to pursue postgraduate studies in Hong Kong.
The GDP initiative is designed specifically for fourth-year undergraduate students at GC. It offers two study pathways: “Bachelor-Master” and “Bachelor-Doctor”. Upon recommendation by GC and review by CUHK, students may receive pre-admission offers to CUHK’s Master of Philosophy (MPhil) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes. After completing their undergraduate degree, students will be able to directly enroll in CUHK’s Faculty of Engineering in September of the same year.
Applications are now open. Subjects available under the initiative include embodied intelligence, robotics, automation and automatic control, artificial intelligence, information science, materials science and engineering, and mechanical engineering. Looking ahead, the collaboration will expand into undergraduate double degrees and more postgraduate programmes.
The GDP initiative is jointly developed by GC and its international partners, offering integrated bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programmes. The initiative aims to provide students with a more diversified international education platform. To date, the GDP initiative has established partnerships with a number of internationally renowned universities, including the University of Michigan, University of Southern California, North Carolina State University, University of California Irvine, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, RWTH Aachen University, Trinity College Dublin, University of Auckland, and University of Waterloo.
