CUHK InnoHub for New Quality Industries opens in Shenzhen
12 March 2026
On 10 March, CUHK inaugurated its InnoHub for New Quality Industries at the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Youth Innovation and Entrepreneur Hub. Already, the inaugural 10 technology enterprises founded by CUHK professors, alumni and students have taken up residence, all contributing to the development of new quality industries, in fields ranging from AI and robotics to advanced manufacturing, healthcare technology and biomedicine.
The concept of “new quality productive forces”, introduced by President Xi Jinping in 2023, refers to advanced productivity freed from the traditional economic growth mode and productivity development paths. It features high-tech, high efficiency and high quality.
The Hub marks a new milestone in the University’s efforts to translate research breakthroughs into industrial applications across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). It also reflects CUHK’s long-standing commitment to the region’s development and its contribution to the advancement of new quality productive forces.
Serving as a platform to consolidate CUHK’s research achievements and entrepreneurial resources, the Hub aims to accelerate the deployment of CUHK’s advanced technologies and startups across the GBA. It will support cross-border startup incubation programmes, foster collaboration among CUHK research teams, research institutions and industries across the region, and provide professional technology transfer and management services. The Hub also seeks to cultivate a wider international network for talent and technology exchange, particularly with partners in countries along the Belt and Road Initiative. In addition, it offers CUHK students dedicated career development resources and a supportive environment for their entrepreneurial ventures.
During the ceremony, the Hub’s senior representatives signed agreements with enterprises, innovation service providers and investment firms from the region, laying the foundations for an open, collaborative, mutually beneficial innovation ecosystem. These partnerships will focus on fostering technological breakthroughs, knowledge transfer and industrial deployment, strengthening the link between basic research, technological advancement and commercialisation across Hong Kong and Shenzhen. The aim is to harness technological innovation to unlock new quality productive forces, driving industrial upgrades and fostering closer integration between the advanced manufacturing and service sectors.
