Shaping CUHK Strategic Plan 2026–2030 – Strategic Planning Workshop
11 February 2026
CUHK is crafting its next five-year roadmap, the Strategic Plan 2026–2030 (“CUHK 2026-2030”), to guide institutional growth amid global changes. The strategic planning process commenced in Q2 2025, with Professor Dennis Lo Yuk-ming, Vice‑Chancellor and President, serving as Chair of the Strategic Plan Steering Committee. To structure CUHK 2026-2030, seven subgroups, each overseen by a designated Chairperson, were formed.
| Thematic Area | Subgroup Chairperson |
| Education | Professor Isabella Poon Wai-yin |
| Student Experience | Professor Ko Wing-hung |
| Research and Innovation | Professor Sham Mai-har |
| Talent Attraction and Development | Professor Dennis Lo Yuk-ming |
| Alumni Engagement and Institutional Advancement | Professor Anthony Chan Tak-cheung |
| Global Engagement | Professor Jiang Liwen (effective 1 August 2025) |
| Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development | Professor Patrick Wong |
Multiple consultative channels were established, including an online feedback platform and engagement sessions, to gather views from CUHK stakeholders. Building on these inputs, the seven subgroups produced reports that informed a University-wide Strategic Planning Workshop held on 16 January 2026 at the Cheng Yu Tung Building, designed to solicit further feedback for the ongoing formulation of CUHK 2026-2030.
The Workshop brought together Council members, members of the Strategic Plan Steering Committee, the Administrative and Planning Committee, faculty representatives, and heads of Professional and Administrative Services units, as well as alumni and student representatives.
To kick off the Workshop, Professor Dennis Lo introduced the Strategic Planning Process. Subgroup Chairpersons then outlined proposed goals, strategic directions, and potential initiatives under their respective themes, followed by open discussion among participants. Participants shared perspectives on the University’s aspirations and priorities while exploring gaps and challenges ahead. Insights from these exchanges shaped focused breakout discussions and were subsequently brought together, prompting further cross‑cutting dialogue and contributing to a more integrated consideration of the University’s overall strategic direction, including the importance of clearly aligned strategies and goals to support the effective deployment of resources.
The Workshop formed part of the wider consultative processes underpinning CUHK 2026–2030, fostering collective engagement across the University community in shaping the direction of the University’s Strategic Plan.
