Eight teams from CUHK represented Hong Kong in the national finals of the China International College Students’ Innovation Competition (CICSIC) 2025, winning five gold, two silver and one bronze awards. Among them, the gold-winning project “Next generation data center interconnects with integrated neuromorphic photonic processor” was also the second runner-up, marking Hong Kong’s best-ever performance in the competition.

Director of CUHK’s Knowledge Transfer Office Professor Benny Zee Chung-ying commended the students for their outstanding achievements and looked forward to their continued breakthroughs and achievements.

Since its launch by the Ministry of Education in 2015, CICSIC has been held annually to encourage students’ engagement in technological innovation and to foster exchange and cooperation among young people in China and around the world. It has become one of the most influential innovation practice platforms globally.

In addition to the newly established Hong Kong and Macao Regional Competition, CICSIC also expanded its international reach with seven regional events across Europe, Africa and other regions.
