6 October 2025
CUHK Entrepreneur Day 2025, held on 19-20 September at Yasumoto International Academic Park, celebrated its 11th edition by uniting around 50 teams of alumni and scholar entrepreneurs. The event showcased pioneering technologies and smart business solutions that reflect CUHK’s vibrant entrepreneurial spirit.
A highlight of the event was a keynote dialogue between Vice-Chancellor Professor Dennis Lo Yuk-ming, a scientist-entrepreneur himself, and Cindy Chow Lok Mei-ki, Executive Director and Chief Executive of the Alibaba Hong Kong Entrepreneurs Fund. In the session titled “Entrepreneurship × Investment – Decoding the DNA of Success”, they explored the latest trends, opportunities and challenges in entrepreneurship and investment, and shared insights on transforming innovative ideas into practical achievements and how to equip aspiring entrepreneurs for their journeys.
Through a variety of activities, including entrepreneurship exhibitions, thematic talks and the entrepreneurship competition, the event introduced innovative projects from CUHK alumni, professors and students, while promoting an entrepreneurial culture on campus.
The teams presented cutting-edge innovations in fields such as artificial intelligence, digital technology, biotechnology, healthcare, sustainable development, green technology, social innovation, education, cultural industries, the Internet of Things and advanced manufacturing. An interactive experience zone also featured well-known CUHK-bred unicorn SenseTime.
Distinguished alumni also took to the stage to discuss pressing topics in entrepreneurship, among them were Caroline Tsang Shui-kwan, Chief Operating Officer (Hong Kong & Macau) at Sanrio Hong Kong, and Hui Ha-lam, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of B.Duck Semk Holdings International Limited. They talked about how characters based on intellectual property can continue to generate commercial value in a highly competitive market, and analyse the strengths and challenges of IP development in Hong Kong. In addition, Dr Wah Choi, founder of WomenX Biotech – which recently developed Hong Kong’s first ever menstrual blood HPV detection sanitary pads – shared her experience of commercialising scientific research and the latest trends in the femtech sector.
CUHK Entrepreneurship Competition crowns its top three winners
At the final of the 9th CUHK Entrepreneurship Competition, six startups took the stage to showcase their cutting-edge solutions and entrepreneurial visions. Homing Therapeutics Limited emerged as the champion with groundbreaking CAR-T cell therapies designed to enhance bone marrow targeting and tackle cancer relapse through advanced gene and chemical engineering. CELLmeric Limited and Illuminatio Medical Technology Ltd claimed the first and second runner-up titles respectively, for their contributions to biomedical innovation.
Organised by CUHK Alumni Torch Fund, this year’s Entrepreneur Day welcomed distinguished guests including Lillian Cheong Man-lei, Under Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of the Hong Kong SAR (who participated in video mode) and Anna Cheung Sze-wai, Assistant Executive Director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.
