Honouring guardians of the national flag

The Office of Student Affairs held the CUHK Flag-Guard Team Certificate Presentation Ceremony on 1 September to honour 13 members of the team.

Professor John Chai Yat-chiu, Chairman of the CUHK Council, Professor Dennis Lo Yuk-ming, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK, and several University Officers attended the event held at the CUHK History Gallery, with Professor Lo presenting certificates to the students.

Among the 13 members who were awarded certificates this year, 10 were new members who received appointment certificates. The new members were: Luk Man-ting, Vernon Ho Wai-lun, Chau Ying-ying, Cheung Yuk-yan, Chen Henian, Chan Yim-chi, Pang Kui-laam, Wu Tin-shun, An Ran, Leung Ho-tin. The recipients of certificates of appreciation were Chen Zihao and Liang Yuqing. Two graduating members received certificates of appreciation.

Li Yi-yan, a third-year student majoring in Professional Accountancy, won “The Best CUHK Flag-Guard Team Member 2024–2025 Award”. She has actively participated in flag-raising duties and competitions, demonstrating a sense of responsibility and outstanding team spirit.

“From knowing nothing about drills to becoming a CUHK Flag-Guard, I am grateful to my instructors and teammates for their patience and unwavering support,” Yi-yan said. “This experience has taught me the true essence of teamwork: it’s not just about technical skills, but also about building shared beliefs and spirits. This award does not belong solely to me; it belongs to every teammate who worked side by side with me.”

Members of the team share a common goal: They are entrusted with the mission of national education and are responsible for flag-raising ceremonies and related activities to safeguard the dignity of the flags.
