Top DSE scorers join CUHK

9 September 2025

Seven top scorers in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (DSE) this year have chosen to study in CUHK, the highest number among local universities’ intake. They will all join the Medicine (MBChB) Programme Global Physician-Leadership Stream (GPS).

The Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS) announced its main round offer results on 6 August. CUHK has admitted a total of 2,978 undergraduate students through JUPAS. The seven top scorers admitted to CUHK’s GPS stream earned level 5**, the top grade, across at least six subjects, including the only candidate who secured 5** across eight subjects – the highest results this year.

Another 18 students who got the top grade across five subjects have also enrolled at CUHK, including 15 with the GPS programme or Biomedical Sciences Programme of the Faculty of Medicine, and three with the Quantitative Finance and Risk Management Science Programme. This cements the position of GPS as the top programme in Hong Kong, as it attained the highest median admission score among all local universities for the 12th consecutive year.

For the fourth consecutive year, CUHK has admitted half of the city’s top 100 students in their best five HKDSE subjects and in the number of the top two grades, levels 5** and 5*, again representing the highest proportion among all institutions in the city.

The eight faculties of CUHK provide a wide selection of programme options to cater for the diverse development of students, and 14 CUHK programme or streams of different faculties and schools have admitted top students with a score of 33 or above in their best five HKDSE subjects.

In addition, a total of 101 students have also been admitted to CUHK through the School Principal’s Nominations Scheme, recognised for their achievements in various fields such as sports, the arts and culture, and voluntary service. Additionally, five students were admitted through the Sports Scholarship Scheme, in recognition of their outstanding achievements in sports including basketball, football, volleyball, cross-country and swimming. Four students with special educational needs were admitted.

Professor Andy Wong Ka-chat, CUHK’s Director of Admissions and Financial Aid, said: “We are delighted to see many top students aspiring to pursue medicine and take on significant responsibilities in society. At the same time, students’ interests have become increasingly diverse, with their bold pursuit of their dreams helping to shape the future of Hong Kong.”
