Over the past year, CUHK has arranged for more than 500 students to participate in various career development programmes in Shanghai to gain practical experience.
To further promote talent development between Hong Kong and Shanghai, CUHK recently organised “The Thanksgiving Reception for Internship Partners”. At the event, Professor Dennis Lo Yuk-ming, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK, presenting certificates of appreciation to partners, including the Shanghai Municipal Talent Work Bureau, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Shanghai, the People’s Government of Yangpu District, Shanghai, the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai, Seeding’s Culture Youth Exchange Centre, The Shanghai Orient Nexus Group Asia-Pacific Talent Exchange and Development Center and others.
On the same day, the Hong Kong Students Experiential Learning Programme 2025 was kicked off at Pudong International Talent Hub. This initiative offers CUHK students a chance to have in-person visits at enterprises, gaining practical experience to lay a solid foundation for their future careers. Participating new graduates and students took part in a six-day enterprise visit and career exploration in Shanghai from 25 to 30 May, during which they immerse themselves in Shanghai’s corporate environment, experiencing the workplace culture and acquiring industry knowledge to prepare them for future careers.
Meanwhile, during their trip to Shanghai, Professor Lo, Provost Professor Isabella Poon Wai-yin and Associate Vice-President Professor Hector Sun-on Chan attended CUHK Shanghai Centre’s launch meeting on 27 May. The event brought together representatives from government, academia and business community to witness the University’s latest strides in fostering Hong Kong-Shanghai collaboration in technological innovation and knowledge transfer.
A highlight of the event was the launch of a Joint Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme between CUHK and the Shanghai Municipal Talent Work Bureau. The new programme will focus on cutting-edge fields including integrated circuits, biomedical sciences, artificial intelligence, mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology. It will support postdoctoral researchers conducting research at CUHK, supporting them to achieve breakthroughs in their fields.
The meeting also featured the launch ceremony for the second batch of six knowledge-transfer projects that have officially joined CUHK’s Innoport@Shanghai, a technology incubation hub in the city. Including the first batch of five projects that launched last year, a total of 11 projects have now been established at InnoPort@Shanghai. It will continue to provide one-stop support services for the transformation and commercialisation of research achievements in the city.
