Celebrating cultural diversity through sports

On 16 March, the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) organised the Sports Fiesta, a vibrant event supported by the Mainland Undergraduate Association (MUA) and the International Student Association (ISA). The event aimed at fostering cultural exchange and showcasing cultural diversity through sports. A total of 240 students from various backgrounds enthusiastically participated, creating an atmosphere of interaction and camaraderie.

The Sports Fiesta provided an excellent platform for participants to demonstrate their athletic skills and sportsmanship through engaging games such as 3-on-3 basketball, badminton, and the thrilling new sport of Devastation Ball. Among the event’s highlights was a friendly badminton match between the champion team and the guests’ team, which consisted of Professor Ko Wing-hung, the University Dean of Students, and an executive committee member of MUA. This exciting match captivated spectators and added to the overall excitement of the event.

The participants of the Sports Fiesta represented a diverse group, including both local and non-local students, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate students. In addition to the involvement of MUA and ISA, the event also engaged the Malaysian Students’ Association, Southeast Asian Association, and Thai Student Association, further exemplifying the rich cultural diversity at CUHK.

Gabrielle Mok, the Event Manager of the 14th cabinet of ISA, expressed gratitude for the collaborative opportunity. “We are delighted to have the chance to collaborate with OSA and MUA. The full support provided by OSA has been instrumental in realising many new ideas. I am confident that the bridge we have built between the international community and the University will continue to grow even stronger. It has been an honour to work with OSA, and I eagerly look forward to our future collaborations in fostering cultural integration on campus.”
