Professor Clement Tham honoured as ‘EyeCon’ in ophthalmology

Organised by the renowned international medical journal Asia-Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology biannually, “World EyeCon21” recognises the most influential and exemplary ophthalmologists and visual scientists of the 21st century. This year, the award ceremony was held on 22 February at the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO)’s annual congress in Bali, Indonesia. A total of 24 ophthalmology leaders across the world were honoured, including Professor Clement Tham Chee-yung, Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at CU Medicine. Professor Tham is one of only two awardees from Hong Kong.

A key leader in international ophthalmology, Professor Tham is a renowned clinician-scientist, with research specialising in glaucoma. He has been the Secretary General and CEO of the APAO for the past 11 years, and is currently President-Elect of the Asia-Pacific Glaucoma Society. The professor was recently the Treasurer of the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO), the largest ophthalmic professional society in the world.
