Third Greater Bay Area policy forum at CUHK highlights student pathways and career readiness

30 June 2025

CUHK hosted the Policy Forum on School Transition and Readiness for College and Career in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) on 6 June, gathering educators and professionals from the public sector, social enterprises and non-profits from Hong Kong, mainland China, Macau, Australia, and the United States.

Organised by the Research Consortium for Education Policy and Development in the GBA at CUHK’s Hong Kong Institute of Educational Research (HKIER), the forum was an opportunity for the attendees to explore the challenges and opportunities related to student transitions and career planning in the GBA.

The forum featured three academic sessions addressing key topics such as equity in STEM education, socio-emotional development, access to higher education, digital learning, curriculum reform, career readiness, and labour market transitions, and concluded with a leadership roundtable. The event was supported by the Tin Ka Ping Foundation.

In his opening remarks, Professor Fan Xitao, Dean of the Faculty of Education at CUHK, emphasised the forum’s significance as a reflection of the University’s commitment and leadership in GBA-focused education policy research. He expressed his hope that these initiatives would continue to strengthen institutional partnerships across the region.

Forum Scientific Co-Chair Professor Kenneth K. Wong of Brown University noted that the event, now in its third year, had steadily grown in impact and become an important platform linking policy dialogue with practical engagement.

Professor Ou Dongshu, Associate Director of HKIER and Scientific Co-Chair of the forum, remarked that student career planning had become a central concern for both educators and policymakers. She highlighted the forum’s role in not only focusing on the GBA context, but also attracting global research talent to collectively explore strategies for regional educational development.
